Carp Fishing Cooking & Outdoors FAQs

What cooking equipment should I take fishing?

This will depend on entirely what you are looking to eat or drink. Most anglers will carry a gas stove, and gas cartridge along with a kettle and then something along the lines of a connected sandwich toaster which can be used as a small frying pan. Larger pots/pans are available, to cater for your needs, or alternatively, BBQs or other grills are available.

Should I use a gas grill or camp stove for cooking?

Again this is personal preference, but most anglers will use a gas stove, as they take up less room in your bag, and are easier to use, without the need or risk of petrol on your hands.

Can I use a gas grill or stove in my bivvy?

No. These can be used in an open doorway, but should always be kept well away from the material, and used in a well-ventilated space.

What are the best lamps and repellent products for insect repelling?

There are several well-made insect lamps on the market, from companies such as Gardner, Wolf and Trakker along with other things such as citronella candles and mosquito coils. Other liquid sprays are available for use on the skin, however, it's always worth doing a test patch on the back of your hand before use.

Can I use heaters and/or air conditioning units in my bivvy?

Small bivvy fans are available to keep you cool in warmer months, however, heaters should be used with caution as they are gas-powered and will produce carbon monoxide. If used in a confined space, they can be very dangerous due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Check that your heater carries a carbon monoxide alarm or shut off.

What are the main differences between the more expensive cool boxes and the cheaper options?

The simple answer will be the level of insulation they offer. More expensive boxes will be better insulated so keep your contents colder for longer.
